About Seakayakflorida

Hi,  and welcome to my site about  kayaking the coast, rivers, and barrier islands of the Big Bend* and North Florida.   My name is Craig Fugate and I invite you to come and experience the Real Florida.  Paddle down spring fed rivers or out to barrier islands, see manatees and gators, bald eagles, and dolphin.  The trips listed on this site are only those that I have paddled. Same with the photos. My boats are a Necky Zoar and a Wilderness System Manteo.  If you are looking for some place to learn about or buy a sea kayak, I can recommend  the The Wilderness Way in Tallahassee and Brasington's Adventure Outfitters in Gainesville, Fl.

*the Big Bend is located on Florida's Gulf Coast from the Apalachicola River to the Suwannee River. The term refers to the curve in the coastline as it turns from a north-south orientation to a east-west direction. Many are now calling this area the Nature Coast and by far, it is the least developed of Florida's coastline. This description may vary depending on who you ask with some descriptions going further south and some further west, some not as far in either direction. Most of all, the Big bend is also a state of mind that one must experience to understand. Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail

Also, you may have noticed that I have a paddling partner, my wife Sheree. We were married in January of 2002. Here are some paddling pictures from our honeymoon in Savannah.

When I'm not paddling, I work in the field of emergency management. Currently I am the Director of  the Florida Division of Emergency Management at www.floridadisaster.org and also manage my own disaster web site at www.disastersrus.org.

Happy paddling
