Lake Talquin, Ochlocknee River - Florida
Located about 18 miles west of Tallahassee, Florida, Lake Talquin was created when the Talquin dam was built on the Ochlockonee River to provide hydroelectric power. Alligators and water fowl are both at home in the maze of channels and islands that make up this end of the lake. Osprey nests are numerous atop of old cypress trees. April 1, 2006 - Best way to see the Osprey is by kayak, paddle towards the north end of the lake. You will see nest built up in trees surrounded by water. Paddle near the nest, then drift towards them. If the Osprey begin to fly off, you are too close, back off and move on. Trip Description: Launch at Coe's Landing and paddle north to US 90 and back. Round trip is 12 miles. Coe's landing is a Leon County Park, no fees are required to launch.
