Ichetucknee River

December 26, 2001

Trip Report: It was a sunny day in December and I wanted to get out of the house, Christmas was over and I needed to paddle (I also had a new Florida Park Service Annual Pass to try out). So I headed out to the Ichetucknee river. This time of year, you rarely see anyone on the river other than a few kayaks.  Warmer months are too crowed for me, but this day was prefect. Cold and dry, with only a little wind on the way back down. I launched from the US 27 park entrance near the bridge and paddled up to the main springs tubing launch site. Here I got out and walked up to Ichetucknee Spring. After stretching my legs, I paddled back to the launch site. Round trip is about 7 miles.

Wildlife: Saw no gators, but plenty of hawks and owls. A few deer were grazing north of mid-point in the river.
